Hi there! Re side lying rotation (open book) I am interested in the fact that you cue translation of ribcage (imprinting) before rotating - was this a specific direction due to clients particular stiff ribs issue? I have been taught to take client into rotation from neutral spine but this may be for someone without your clients issue. On a personal note i find it pinches in low ribs and SIJ to rotate to left - what can you suggest please? I teach in the UK

Hi Audrey, If you are lying on your right side and rotating the ribs to the left, the spine would translate toward the floor, hence the cue to lean into the floor or imprint them into the floor. If you press too hard or have a restriction in thorax, then you may hike your hip causing lower spine translation and it could aggravate the SIJ. Rotation is never neutral. I suggest you maintain your pelvis, imprint the ribs easily into the floor and notice how far can you truly rotate in the thorax without disturbing the lower spine and pelvis. I hope this helps.

That's great thanks Madeline - understood and will pursue! I have neurological deficits on my right side ( I have parkinsons) so am always having to try to increase activation but often go too far! I work with clients on matwork and don't use large equipment unfortunately. Id like to do another of your workshops with this in mind. What would you suggest?

If you do not use equipment I have a couple of mat based workshops on Fusion, take a look at those. Some day maybe take a course when we are returning to being in person. Take care and be safe.
