Session 9
Assignment

Your Assignment:

Things to Focus On

1.) Investigate the different ways to cue the activation of the core. Experimenting with imagery, touch cues, and anatomy will really paint a complete picture of where the core musculature actually is and how it works.
2.) Take it slow when beginning to teach the client to activate their multifidus, TA, pelvic floor, and psoas. These can be very subtle feelings at first, and their activation is primary to bigger movements. Slowing it down at the beginning is very helpful here.
3.) Practice cueing the core structure from the front, back, and sides of the body. Start to bring a spherical awareness of the body to the client’s attention. They need to feel that this isn’t just an “ab” exercise, but a way to innervate and activate the whole of the body.

1 Personal Practice Hour:

Think about the Core Activation concepts we’ve focused on in the last Observation Video and Session Video, as well as the Things to Focus On above. Do a practice hour with these concepts in mind.

2 Student Teaching Hours:

Now, plan two teaching sessions based on these same concepts. Teach these sessions to a friend or family member. Incorporate some of the verbal and hands-on cueing you’ve seen in the videos. Try to make them your own.

Always treat these Teaching Hours the same as if you were in a studio teaching a paying client.

Don’t forget to log these hours in your Master Log!
